Article is overly technical[edit]

Since there are active editors for this article, and I am not a content area expert, I won't change the article, but I would like to make a point that to mere mortals, this explanation makes no sense without having to leave the article to look up definitions for all the other jargon.

In this case, my favorite place to get an overview of a specific topic failed me. This article ws much more meaningful to me, a moderately tech-savvy general interest reader. [1]

While I am not a content area expert, I am an expert in clearly written communication. I would gently suggest to the regular editors of this article that it could be made more readable and still remain extremely accurate.

I have to second that sentiment. I read a phrase like backhauling is concerned with transporting traffic between distributed sites, and my first thought is, OK that's what it concerns, but what does backhauling actually mean? Improved somewhat. A merger with middle mile may be an effective way to help define these things. See FTTx and last mile, WAN and WLAN and municipal Wi-Fi for examples of what better articles on these subjects should look like.

Is Mimo-Mesh notable? As a backhaul option?[edit]

Not sure if Mimo-Mesh and "intermittent periodic transmit" deserve any attention in this article if not notable enough to be covered in their own articles. That section appears almost promotional of a proprietary technology. For now it's balanced by a list of other hotspot systems that are supported in FOSS router firmware. <-- That should redirect to the list of wireless router firmware projects especially as the phrase "router firmware" appears in names like Gargoyle (router firmware) and in section titles in Linksys WRT54G and PacketProtector and etc.

Merger with middle mile?[edit]

All mention of wireless hotspots seems out of place, this seems more suitable for the software-defined networking article, not this one. At best hotspot networks are middle mile networks not backhauls.

Alternatively, "backhaul" can be treated as a commercial term, as it appears to be used in the references regarding cell towers. It doesn't seem to have any clear technical definition. So perhaps this article can be about commercial issues while middle mile and backbone network deal with technical issues?
