Merge discussion[edit]

Proposing that Ararat, Ballarat pages be merged and add a section for Maryborough. Possible rename as Western Region services? Anothersignalman (talk) 22:47, 31 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Per V/Line, it is the Ballarat line, even though it branches to Maryborough and Ararat. I'd stay with the official name and merge to Ballarat V/Line article, with sections for Ararat and Maryborough lines. I wouldn't rename as Western Region as that is too general and could imply Warrnambool, Geelong, etc. It could also be confused with Western Victoria V/Line coach services. Jack N. Have edited the line guide on the Ballarat page. Thoughts? Anothersignalman (talk) 00:40, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Good work! Should Maryborough be bolded as a terminal, as rail service ends there? Jack N. Stock (talk) 13:54, 27 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Fixed. Anothersignalman (talk) 00:15, 28 February 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Merge discussion[edit]

I propose that this article (Melton railway line) be merged into the Ballarat V/Line rail service article. Having a seperate article for the Melton railway line is redundant as the tracks continue to Ballarat, V/Line and PTV don't distinguish Melton as a seperate service (on maps, signage, and their websites), and it makes it seem like the V/Line operates a service to Melton for Metro trains (similar to the Stony Point line where V/Line operates diesel trains for Metro). I propose that the Melton railway line article is merged into the Ballarat V/Line rail service article. Thank you and let me know your comments below. Support. HoHo3143 (talk) 07:09, 28 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Support. I agree with this, Melton isn't actually it's own railway line it's just a part of the Ballarat service. There's no equivalent for V/Line to Wyndham Vale, for example, and trains do actually terminate there sometimes. More generally at some point it might be worth taking stock of how V/Line articles are organised (for example, some branches have their own service articles but others don't). Support. Melton services were basically non existant for most of Victorian rail history and most if not all services continued onto bachus marsh and ballarat anyway NotOrrio (talk) 04:34, 1 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
As the discussion has stagnated, the consensus by others is to Support the merge. I will be merging the article in the near future once I have finished other projects. HoHo3143 (talk) 03:17, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have now merged all content and requested the article to be deleted. HoHo3143 (talk) 03:22, 13 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
