BMDO began in 1974[edit]

"That same year, the Secretary of the Army announced that all ballistic missile defense efforts would be realigned under one organization and, on 20 May 1974, the SAFEGUARD System Organization was redesignated the Ballistic Missile Defense Organization (BMDO)."*
