Autobiography???[edit]

What on earth is all this about? The section with an exclamation mark in a blue triangle seems to imply that I am suspected of writing some of this stuff myself. On what basis? Which bits? The only change I have ever made to this article was years ago when I corrected the date of my birth from 1932 to 1935. Very offensive as it stands. I tend to agree, but this notice is not intended to be an accusation. We have endless trouble with some editors and their proxies "massaging" their own articles, and need to alert other editors to the possibility. As I said, nobody is accusing you of improper conduct here. Disclosure: You and I met in 1984 when I appeared on University Challenge, but I doubt you will remember that! Thanks for removing the stuff above the article itself. But in view of what you say, why can't you also remove the blue triangle autobiography panel and leave just the other two about improving the article. In view of the request for a photo I will look one out and see if I can work out the uploading of it (or is that too autobiographical???). Hope you beat whoever it was on University Challenge. Playing for Manchester or York? Bamber — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bamber Gascoigne (talkcontribs) 18:54, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I uploaded a jpeg to http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Bamber_Gascoigne_250.JPG, but it doesn't appear on the page (I had previously uploaded a 600 pixel version, which did appear but at full size, so sized it down to the available space. Over to you if you want to get it in. Bamber — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bamber Gascoigne (talkcontribs) 20:14, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
I've got it in, but messily; never sure what to do in infoboxes. The other tags have all gone as far as I can see. Johnbod (talk) 20:54, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
(edit conflict) Thanks very much for uploading the image; I have fixed the format and will adjust the image release to what you presumably intended. (I was playing for York and we beat the LSE before being beaten by Trinity College Dublin). Cheers. Rodhullandemu 20:56, 22 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Many thanks to both, Bamber — Preceding unsigned comment added by Bamber Gascoigne (talkcontribs) 12:07, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Which Attenborough[edit]

The anecdote about Palin impersonating Richard Attenborough the brother of the Naturalsit David and then talking about unusual trees seem strange. Surely this should be impersonating David Attenborough? I don't know because I didn't see the episode. Can someone confirm. 88.167.71.127 (talk) 08:53, 19 February 2012 (UTC)[reply]

- Noted, and corrected. Brain and fingers were not in sync. 205.175.225.22 (talk) 00:01, 23 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Fixup[edit]

I just completed some fixups to this article. Considering the above concerns, i am not associated with Mr. Gascoigne (though it would be an honor to be an associate). My apologies for not providing edit summaries, which i know can be helpful.Mercurywoodrose (talk) 19:07, 23 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Why is he called Bamber?[edit]

It's an unusual name. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 219.78.30.27 (talk) 01:39, 18 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Is he a descendant of 18th/19th century MPs Bamber Gascoyne (the elder) and Bamber Gascoyne (the younger)? It would seem a striking coincidence if he is not, but a brief search has not unearthed any source that confirm it as a fact.Chuntuk (talk) 14:42, 12 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, he's a descendant. See Isaac Gascoyne. Headhitter (talk) 17:25, 12 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
I've now added text – and a reference – about this to the article. Headhitter (talk) 20:32, 12 September 2014 (UTC)[reply]
But the original Bamber Gascoyne (1725-1791) was so called because his mother was Margaret Bamber. She was the daughter of Dr. John Bamber. The name comes from the Bamber family, it was only passed down through the earlier Bamber Gascoignes/Gascoynes. - Nunh-huh 12:52, 23 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Place of birth in London[edit]

FreeBMD shows here that his birth was registered in Kensington. Does any WP:RS provide any more details? Thanks. Martinevans123 (talk) 13:46, 8 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Discography[edit]

This link was recently added: Bamber Gascoigne discography at Discogs. But I'm not sure what was his involvement with the two Haydn recordings. Martinevans123 (talk) 21:44, 14 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]

He is listed as "Performer (bottle)" at the Hoffnung festival of Music, and he wrote the sleeve notes for the other Haydn CD. I don't think either warrant a mention in this article. Chuntuk (talk) 08:00, 21 February 2022 (UTC)[reply]
