Advertising[edit]

This reads like an advert for the board in question, in that it specifically lists it's strengths over other devices.

A candidate for speedy deletion, surely? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 86.141.90.218 (talk) 00:03, 16 July 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This article still sounds like it is taken directly from marketing materials, rather than written to educate.

Also, the quality of the writing in English is poor--it needs editing by a native English writer or somebody with more experience with the language. Right now, much of the text is in what some folks would term "Taiwan-glish". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Awyueh (talkcontribs) 13:55, 13 July 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Not only does it read like advertising, but it's linked to from the Banana PI website as promotional material. 71.171.20.228 (talk) 00:27, 17 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Some of the text, starting "Banana PI BPI-M64 is the open source hardware platform" is exactly the same as found here. Baldwin Clere (talk) 17:33, 24 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

I think I've fixed most of this. Someone should probably merge all the specifications into one table like on the raspberry pi page, and convert the article away from having one section for each product. Also, we should steal from (legally, it's cc-by) this page. Mapod (talk) 15:40, 18 July 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Hi, thanks for fixing this, but IMHO the text still seems like it was taken from a badly translated marketplace... :-) "we have enough A31S Chip in stock, so we continue produce BPI-M2 until May, 2017. But now we have to sorry to tell that our A31S Chip out of stock now, so we have to stop production of BPI-M2 after 18 months that A31S Chip stop production. From June, 2017, we will not produce BPI-M2 anymore, BPI-M2 is the first product that stop production in Banana PI." redtux (talk) 13:12, 9 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

It seems that a complete rewrite is what is needed.82.24.249.133 (talk) 22:33, 16 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Yeah, probably :/ Mapod (talk) 12:25, 19 September 2017 (UTC)[reply]

Dwlegg Nevertheless, this is a really very useful page. It could be improved, but should not be deleted. —Preceding undated comment added 12:25, 9 January 2020 (UTC)

More than likely the entire page would have to be rewritten as mentioned. This article is listed on the forums with their GitHub, and their own MediaWiki-based wiki site. Got to find other reliable sources as just their website and wiki as main sources is not going to be suitable. CrazyblocksT (talk) 16:10, 10 September 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Unrelated[edit]

>Banana Pi is unrelated to the Raspberry Pi
More of "spiritual successor" than "unrelated".

Price point[edit]

Arguably the price point should be mentioned. This product is not the same price as Raspberry Pi. Price from China is $47.50 plus P+P and customs [1]. Regarding "...much more powerful single-board computer compared..." the CPU is more powerful (A20 ARM® Cortex™-A7 Dual-Core) but it has a less powerful GPU (ARM Mali400MP2) [2] and the Ethernet port is bottle-necked compared to Raspberry Pi [3].

86.161.249.218 (talk) 11:00, 17 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hmm the ethernet is bottlenecks compared to the raspberry pi "... limited by system bottlenecks limiting overall network throughput to around 233Mb/s." - Given the Raspeberry Pi's network is a USB device, at 100 Mb/s maximum and given the USB implementation on the Raspberry Pi has been known to cause issues, I don't think you can say something running 2.3 the best speed possible is somehow bottlenecked compared to it. --86.2.216.5 (talk) 11:53, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
  • Not sure what your reference in regard to the Mali400MP2 being less powerful is meant to be, you seem to be just referring to the specs as if it's some fact that it's not as good as videocore IV - in fact linux.com specify it as an improvement on VC IV (albeit a modest one). --86.2.216.5 (talk) 23:53, 19 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]

Intriged/annoyed by this, found hardware comparision test: http://hardware-libre.fr/2014/06/raspberry-vs-banana-hardware-duel/ Indicates networking six times faster, but GPU four times slower. Results mildly skewed by running Raspberry Pi at 700MHz instead of 1GHz. PCB size slightly larger, many versions, website admits based on Raspberry Pi. The merge[edit]

I could see this going two ways, either one section for Specs with a subsection for each model, or sections for each model, each with a Specs subsection. I don't much care. Either way, I think the biggest problem now is that one set of specs is a table and the other a list. Kendall-K1 (talk) 22:53, 10 February 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Open Source[edit]

The banana pi hardware is not open soure. There is no source, there is no hardware documentation and the hardware is clearly closed source. This seems to be a baseless claim by the producers. Lars82d52 (talk) 02:07, 5 January 2016 (UTC)[reply]
