Requested move 19 October 2021[edit]

The following is a closed discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. Editors desiring to contest the closing decision should consider a move review after discussing it on the closer's talk page. No further edits should be made to this discussion.

The result of the move request was: Not moved. Closing early per WP:SNOW. There's a case for reconsidering Banks (disambiguation), but that would have to be made in a separate request. No such user (talk) 08:50, 22 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

– No obvious primary topic for the singular[[1]] or plural[[2]] per either primacy criteria given the fact that although the term most often refers to the financial meaning it has a large number of other meanings like food banks etc as well as the geographical meaning. Bank (financial institute) is another option. Crouch, Swale (talk) 17:04, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support. Since the Bank article's lead sentence starts with, "A bank is a financial institution...", the most intuitive form would seem to be Bank (financial institution). I would also support merging the Bank (disambiguation) and Banks (disambiguation) pages under the umbrella header Bank. Although Banks redirects to Bank, the lead line of Banks (disambiguation) page avoids redirect via the form, "[[Bank]]s are financial institutions". —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 19:46, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. These are getting tiresome. Even though there are other meanings, this is still the primary topic. Someone looking for "bank" would not be looking for a food bank, river bank, etc. (Conversely, someone looking up information on food banks, etc., would not look up "bank".) I don't see how this is any different than loan, where a similar attempted move just failed. -- Calidum 20:25, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Well the river bank article is at Bank (geography) so how else do you expect it to be looked for though it does get less views. Crouch, Swale (talk) 21:04, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Calidum. I don't see any indication here this isn't the primary topic. There are merely a bunch of PTMs in the nominator's links, and none of them get as many views as the bank article anyway. Nohomersryan (talk) 20:29, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose, clear primary topic. 162 etc. (talk) 21:11, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose per Nohomersryan. I also don't see any indication that this isn't the primary topic. --Spekkios (talk) 22:36, 19 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose. Very clear primary topic. -- Necrothesp (talk) 13:50, 20 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose Bank mainly refers to financial institution and is clear primary topic. 36.77.94.237 (talk) 05:45, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose no argument whatsoever that the financial institution is not the primary topic for Bank; the page views clearly show Bank is several times higher than any other page (the number 2, Central bank, is a type of bank). A better argument for Banks might be reasonable, but I agree with "getting tiresome". User:力 (power~enwiki, π, ν) 18:20, 21 October 2021 (UTC)[reply]
Getting tiresome in what way? The only other similar requests I have filed in the last few months other than Loan (not moved) are Lag (moved) and Ford (moved) but anyway if you look at the views of the plural and simgular (and discount or add them to the financial meaning) you get a negative number that said many of the uses are more often called by a longer name but anyway even "bank(s)" in the context of where you get things (like money or food etc) is ambiguous.
