On notability of company[edit]

The Bank is notable not only as the genesis for the highly successful Canadian Western Bank (CWB), but as it was formed despite the challenging economic environment that pushed many competitors to reign in their activities in key western markets. I am only expressing my thoughts as a generally uninvovlved editor, but I'm not seeing the individual notability of Bank of Alberta other than a component and front runner of Canadian Western Bank. If more notability can be demonstrated I'm for keeping the article, however at best it's a merge & redirect to a section of Canadian Western Bank. Hasteur (talk) 22:20, 3 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Thanks Hasteur for your input. Well, I believe this bank has had a significant impact on the evolution of institutional banking in Western Canada. I am doing my doctoral thesis on this topic at the moment, and this bank has come up many times in various literature. Some of which is available on line, which I have cited as sources.

But from a wikipedia point of view, the key criteria for notability if the corporate entity being cited widely in reliable 3rd party sources, which this institution is, so I believe that from that criteria, the corporate entity meets the criteria. —Preceding unsigned comment added by JustinShapiro (talk • contribs) 15:06, 4 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Perhaps I wasn't clear. Of the 5 references 2 are press releases from Canadian Western Bank (of which they are the same text), The book reference I cannot see beyond the first page (Is it available on Google books?), The artist's page is just a passing mention in a list.
