Links and redundancy[edit]

Barcelona Open or Trofeo Conde de Godó?[edit]

I wonder whether the title should be Trofeo Conde de Godó (i.e. Count of Godó's Trophy in English) like in Spanish Wikipedia. Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell seems to be their current trading name, yet they use also Trofeo Conde de Godó at their website. And the tournament hasn't always been called Barcelona Open, e.g. in 2003 it was Open Seat Godo. Trofeo Conde de Godó is the trophy's name and the tournament has always been known with that name. That's why I think it'd be better title than Barcelona Open. --August90 (talk) 06:42, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

We use a couple things to determine placement. First, no sponsored names, so Barcelona Open Banc Sabadell is out. Next we look at the most common term used by tennis and the English press. From what I can see it's easily the Barcelona Open. We have UK Reuters, UPI, Sydney Morning Herald, yahoo UK, The Telegraph, ESPN, etc... I think we have it at the correct location. And remember each individual year is represented by the full sponsored name here at wikipedia. Fyunck(click) (talk) 07:48, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

OK, I just wanted to bring up one point in case it hasn't been taken into account when naming the article. Anyway, there's one source in English that doesn't use "Barcelona Open (Banc Sabadell)" at all, the history section on tournament's own website. Another thing is how reliable a source it is. Tournament organizer may know tournament's history better than outsider sources, yet they don't always have a neutral point of view. In many cases tournaments' history sections can be something like "(sponsor name here) Open has 50 years long history", even if it was renamed one year ago. But this history section is different case, no mention about sponsored names. But, I'm not an expert in saying what is a reliable source, so I don't want to say if the history section is a reliable source, I just wanted to mention about it.

Also, Barcelona wasn't always in the name. Nowadays it may be in the name only because Barcelona City Council is a sponsor(, and sponsor names should be avoided). But I don't start speculating with it because it may be original research unless someone finds a reliable source saying Barcelona City became title sponsor of the tournament.

And, if there's somebody who understands Spanish, I'd be grateful, if he/she would translate the beginning of the Spanish article here. I read it with Google Translate and it included interesting information about tournaments history, e.g. about name. I just don't want to make a translation with Google Translate and my nonexistent Spanish skills. --August90 (talk) 10:33, 25 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
