On this, "DIY and the origins of punk music and ethic are blurred by commodification and appropriation by mainstream music and culture" This has a bit of a fanboy ring to it. Commodification and appropriation were part of punk music from it's very origins. Malcolm McLaren - was there a DIY ethos from the start, to early proto-punk bands and scenes? Yes. But integral to punk rock music and scenes from the very beginning was a relationship with the corporate music machine and, yes, crass commodification. 208.65.192.1 (talk) 20:50, 22 May 2015 (UTC)[reply]
