Bask was born in Poland[edit]

The Wiktionary link suggests that Bask comes "From Old Norse baðask (“to take a bath”)". What is your source that Poles speak Old Norse??Xx236 (talk) 07:53, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I'm not arguing the the Polish word "Bask" can be translated to mean "Basque" (but not "a Basque man" as you put it, by the way), my point is we have no source as to why this particular horse got that particular name and until we do, we risk providing misinformation. Maybe the word has other meanings. Maybe they were trying to pander to the American market by giving him a name and intended the English translation. Maybe he had a Basque groom (?) Maybe the Polish government was trying to flatter Basque separatists. I don't know and have not yet found a source that says. When we do, I have no problem providing an accurate explanation. Until then, a translation for its own sake is useless. Montanabw(talk) 18:00, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Follow up: I found an interview with the man who named him and that provided the necessary nuance. Basically, I gathered from the source that he was so named because he had courage and a strong work ethic, which was what the farm manager considered to also be a trait of the Basque people. That's the missing bit! I put the direct quote in the article. Montanabw(talk) 18:48, 10 December 2010 (UTC)[reply]

– a cursory Google search shows no result for this horse in the first 500 results. This does not seem to be a good primary topic -- 65.92.247.226 (talk) 10:18, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Support per nomination; Necrothesp; Crouch, Swale; In ictu oculi and Ortizesp. There are eight entries listed upon the Bask (disambiguation) page with no indication that the horse's renown had reached such proportions that it overwhelmed the combined notability of the remaining seven entries. —Roman Spinner (talkcontribs) 21:15, 28 September 2022 (UTC)[reply]
