Qualification Europe[edit]

In this article https://www.fiba.basketball/news/pre-olympic-qualifying-tournaments-a-new-path-to-paris-for-countries-that-don-t-reach-world-cup it is pretty clearly stated that Four other teams will be eligible from the EuroBasket Pre-Qualifiers Second Round. It is pretty obvious since the 3rd round of Eurobasket 2025 pre-qualifiers will be held in the same time as Olympic pre-qualifying tournament. So, 4 European participants will not be selected based on FIBA ranking, but based on advancing from pre-qualifiers round 2 to qualifiers. Mijo34 (talk) 22:13, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]

qualifying directly via sub zone ranking.[edit]

Three countries are now unable to qualify by this route; France, Finland, and Mexico. I see edit summaries saying to 'wait' to note this. What are we waiting for specifically. Additionally, how are we to notate the countries that have already failed this route, if at all.18abruce (talk) 21:24, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

There is nothing to wait for. The countries should be reflected as not being able to qualify for the Olympic play in tournament. Mchammer55123 (talk) 23:33, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I agree, I am going to try sorting them so that countries that are eliminated, or at least in the same circumstances, are grouped together. Might be a better way, don't know.18abruce (talk) 23:46, 28 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
What i mean with wait is the record they have. It should not be added during the tournment. Now if a team is eliminated, theat can be added. Kante4 (talk) 10:31, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Right, that makes sense.18abruce (talk) 11:22, 29 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Why is Japan appointed as already qualified at least to qualifier tournament?[edit]

I don't understand why with actual results Japan is already qualified at least to qualifier tournament. Already secured a spot as at least second best asian+new zealand, or in the top 22 (16 spots to qualifier tournament + 2 americans direct in olympics + 2 europeans direct in olympics + 1 oceania direct in olympics + 1 american in qualifier tournament - we can add cause all this spots are into the top 16 so the spots go down the table). I think Japan really will go to at least qualifier tournament, but with actual results it is already secured? @Qby you did this change, can explain? Mvways (talk) 13:47, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Japan secured top three in Group O with 2 wins and that means they secured top 27. Qby (talk) 14:14, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
but why top27 secure a spot in qualifier tournament? In the last World Cup the 24th-27th didn't qualified to qualifier tournament for example Mvways (talk) 14:22, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
This time is different, there is the 8 direct, the 16 best others, but then they added three regional bests to the qualifiers so it would make it 27. Since 2 Asian and 2 Africa entries have to be part of the 8+19=27, then there is also an extremely unlikely possibility of 28th place getting into the qualifiers so we should be extra cautious with showing nations as 'clinched' who can still come 3rd in their group.18abruce (talk) 21:20, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
And I should add, what if France somehow finishes 28th? Then the 27th best would not qualify.18abruce (talk) 13:32, 1 September 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Just going to continue clarifying other disputes from today; no asian team is yet eliminated from qualification since Japan (at 2 wins) can still finish 3rd in their group and all other entries from the zone still can technically finish at least 2nd. Also, since all four groups could have a 3rd place with 2 wins, and South Sudan, Egypt , and Japan can each still finish 3rd in their group, none of them are assured of anything yet: They can each still finish as low as 28th. If I have overlooked something please explain with specific details.18abruce (talk) 21:08, 31 August 2023 (UTC)[reply]
