First sentence needs help[edit]

I was going to try to clean it up, but I can't figure out what each of the clauses refers to.

"The Battle of Sangrar or Combat of Sangra was fought on June 26, 1881 in the Peruvian central Andes, during the Letelier expedition, the first of its type during the sierra campaign of the War of the Pacific, sent to eliminate the Peruvian resistance growing over there after the fall of Lima and conducted by Andrés Cáceres."

"...the first of its type": the battle was the first of its type or the expedition was?
"...,sent to eliminate": what was sent to eliminate the resistance?
"...conducted by Andrés Cáceres.": the battle was? or the expedition? or the resistance?

I think 2 or 3 short declarative sentences would help the reader. If anyone understands what happened there, could you fix it? Schazjmd (talk) 00:10, 14 April 2019 (UTC)[reply]
