Origins of word: Bayonet[edit]

At the time of writing, this article states that the term bayonet grew from the town's armaments industry. However, the article Bayonet includes the following statement:

The evolution of the bayonet can be traced to a certain extent to a fortuitous accident. In the mid-17th century irregular military conflicts of rural France, the peasants of the Southern French town of Bayonne, having run out of powder and shot, rammed their long-bladed hunting knives into the muzzles of their primitive muskets to fashion impromptu spears, and by necessity created an ancillary weapon that was to influence Western European infantry tactics until the early 20th century.

Can anybody say which story (possibly both) is right? 62.239.24.22 13:23, 3 November 2005 (UTC)[reply]

political article[edit]

This article clearly exalts basque nationalism. In the culture section that "supposed basque identity" minimizes more clearly facts like the figure of Leon Bonnet. —Preceding unsigned comment added by Cid Campeador (talkcontribs) 00:59, 7 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Translators note[edit]

The French Wikipedia article is extremely and I consider excessively long. I have translated what I think is of greatest importance: Geography, History, Mayors, Demographics. I have left out Urban planning, politics and left the English main sights unchanged. This is still a very long article and may be still considered excessively long. Anyone who disagrees with how this has been done is welcome to improve it. Samrong01 (talk) 09:54, 14 December 2015 (UTC)[reply]
