A note about the acreage...[edit]

I've changed the stated acreage of this park from the previously (unreferenced) 950 acres to 790 acres, based on this project description (page 3)[1] written by the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation, managers of the park. There are several low-quality sources on the web that repeat the 950 figure, mostly copied or sourced from this page I imagine. However, this brief description from the Niagara Frontier Wildlife Habitat Council does put the acreage at 951.81 acres, but then states that 171.56 acres is underwater, for 780.25 acres above ground. Most of the underwater portion must be in the river, as the park does not have any large lakes. I really don't know whether park acreages are typically supplied with offshore underwater acreage included, but having sourced a lot of NYSP acreages lately, my hunch (and it really is a hunch) is that they are not. There's also this book from 2001 (pre-Wiki) which, on the Google Books search results page, shows BISP with 950 acres, presumably including the underwater acreage. Nevertheless, in this instance I'm inclined to go with the figure provided by the park's managers themselves, but I consider it open for discussion if anyone thinks different, or finds better sources. Since writing the above, I have come across a secondary source that lists the acreage and scant other data for all New York State Parks, published by the The Nelson A. Rockefeller Institute of Government.[2] For consistency, I have deferred to this source for other NYSP articles for basic info such as location and acreage. Although this source lists the NYSOPRHP as their reference, it occasionally disagrees with self-reported acreage displayed on individual park websites or other documents; however, having reviewed most NYSP webpages, it seems that their content is dictated and created by region or sometimes on a park-by-park basis. The Rockefeller Institute of Government is at least presumably pulling from a consistent source, and so I will update the acreage here per their listings (952 acres).
