australia[edit]

"The use of Bell standard 103 and 212A is not permitted in Australia. Use of these modes will cause your modem to lose its permit status."

Does anyone know why this is so? Is it true for any other parts of the world?203.206.162.148 (talk) 03:44, 24 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Mark tone[edit]

The main page of this article would be improved if "mark tones" were explained better. I assume this is similar to framing the data bits into "bytes" and "flow control commands." Knowing where a byte starts, and where it stops, is useful to the concept of framing. 216.99.201.11 (talk) 04:31, 26 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]

First commercial modem - 101 or 103?[edit]

Both this article and Bell 101 describe their subjects as "the first commercial modem for computers". If the 101 was, should that sentence be removed from this article? FooCow (talk) 12:19, 30 June 2014 (UTC)[reply]
