Indigenous Inhabitants[edit]

This article is edited from time to time to say the original indigenous inhabits of Newfoundland lived on or likely frequently visited the island. There appears to be no academic research to support this idea, and there would have been little reason for them to visit the island given its lack of wild game and the abundance of other nearby areas to launch fishing vessels. I'm not sure why it keep getting edited in. The last source that was cited to back up this claim was an academic article about the history of gardening on the Island which stated, "Although we are not aware of any recorded archaeological surveys or excavations from the pre-colonial period, Bell Island would have almost certainly been a site for myriad subsistence activities by Indigenous populations," without a citation or any primary research given. This does not appear to be nearly definitive enough a source to make such a claim. 142.167.20.61 (talk) 18:26, 4 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
