Big Brother 2023, also known as Big Brother 20, is the upcoming twentieth series of Big Brother. It will be the first series to air on ITV2 after ITV gained the rights to the series in August 2022, almost four years since it last aired on Channel 5.[1][2]

Production

In April 2022, it was reported in several tabloid newspapers that ITV Studios were in talks with production company Banijay, who own the rights to Big Brother, to revive the series in 2023, following a five-year hiatus.[3][4] On 1 August 2022, during the final of the eighth series of Love Island, a 20-second teaser trailer aired on ITV2, with ITV subsequently confirming that the show would return for a new series in 2023.[5][6][7]

Following the announcement of the series, Paul Mortimer, the director of Reality Commissioning & Acquisitions said: "This refreshed, contemporary new series of Big Brother will contain all the familiar format points that kept viewers engaged and entertained the first time round [...] We’re beyond excited to bring this iconic series to ITV2 and ITVX where it should especially engage with our younger viewers."[8][9]

Emma Willis, the presenter of the programme prior to its cancellation on Channel 5, ruled out the possibility of her returning as host saying that she "loved [her] time on the show" but "very much kind of said goodbye to it back then because [she] thought it was over".[10]

On August 7th, the Big Brother auditions page was pre-released, stating that housemates needed to be free for 8 weeks, during the Spring period. The page was later closed and redirected users to the main Big Brother website. The same day, it was announced The series will debut in March, after the winter edition of Love Island according to respected industry publication Broadcast

When the Terms and Conditions of Big Brother 2023 was released. The terms and conditions highlighted that housemates must be residents of the UK (including Northern Ireland) excluding the Republic of Ireland.

Format

Following the commissioning of the show, ITV announced that the series would feature a new cast of carefully selected housemates, from all walks of life. The series is set to run for up to six weeks, with "cameras capturing [the housemates'] every move, and the nation following every twist and turn." Shopping tasks, nominations and live evictions will return, with the public once again voting throughout the series and ultimately determining the winner, who will walk away with a cash prize.[8][11]

House

The location for the series was not initially confirmed, but it was teased as "an iconic Big Brother house" which would be given "its own contemporary new look ready for this reimagining of the show."[8] A week after the announcement of the series returning, media outlets reported that the series is set to be filmed at ITV Studios Bovingdon after planning applications were submitted for three new studios, as well as a backlot for temporary studios with outdoor filming.[12]

During the 20-second teaser, it depicted numerous ITV2 logos forming into the shape of a Big Brother eye.[13][14]

Jenkins choice[edit]

Why was Jenkins the housemate that choose the nomination? Was it a random draw, viewer vote or something else? (Fran Bosh (talk) 12:54, 9 October 2023 (UTC))[reply]

Olivia nomination highlighted?[edit]

The fact that Olivia was automatically nominated after being chosen as the hardest housemate to live with by Jenkin and She later won immunity after not being ranked the least entertaining HM has nothing to do with her nomination of Farida. So why is her nomination highlighted? Leaky caldron (talk) 08:58, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

@Leaky caldron: Because she was immune from being nominated, if you look back at previous series this is done to inform the reader via colour if they struggle reading. Put it back please.2A00:23EE:1018:6A50:9507:D280:6B71:1937 (talk) 11:59, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Leaky caldron: Big Brother clearly stated that she was immune from eviction. She was not able to be nominated, hence the highlight like it has been on every season. The official BBUK social media accounts also has her listed as "immune" when they revealed the nominations. Sistersugarcookie (talk) 13:53, 14 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

OK - point taken. Leaky caldron (talk) 10:48, 15 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Jordan's "age on entry"[edit]

I have noticed in the "Housemates" table, under the "age on entry" heading for Jordan it states 26. As Jordan turned 26 while in the house (on 11th October), should this not state 25, as Jordan was 25 when he entered (on 7th/8th Oct)? B1t3j (talk) 19:28, 17 October 2023 (UTC)[reply]

The remaining live evictions and live final will also air on ITV1[edit]

ITV have announced the show will be upgraded and also air on the ITV network (ITV1) as well as ITV2 for the remaining live evictions and live final.

Backdoor double eviction[edit]

Is it me or does it make no sense to have two columns for this last week’s twist??? Looks bad and for no reason. Them three going to the secret room changes literally nothing to nominations 2A02:A03F:6749:6F01:4484:A70D:5E98:1447 (talk) 00:45, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Good point. We didn't do this for BB12 when the same thing happened. — RachelRice (talk, contribs) — 00:51, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Yes. What if the nominees had stayed in the main house? A second column wouldn’t have been added. Them going to the secret room changes nothing because the nominations stay the same and so does the outcome. Adding a second column is utterly unnecessary. 2A02:A03F:6749:6F01:FD76:A258:1ED1:F841 (talk) 08:45, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I have removed it because it is not needed MSalmon (talk) 11:04, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
An account by the name of Trish Balusa has readded the pink columns, stating that it is customary to do so because faie evictions have always been stated. That would be true only if housemates had nominated to evict which is not what happened. Can someone please correct it? 2A02:A03F:6749:6F01:D90D:5CA:C986:82D (talk) 11:34, 13 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

"Second most votes to evict"[edit]

Do we have any evidence that Dylan, Trish and Jenkin have received fewer votes than the other evicted nominated housemates? Apart from the fact that they were evicted right after them 2A02:A03F:6749:6F01:ECD1:5ADB:A17B:B16B (talk) 12:44, 15 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Final vote %[edit]

Hi, the final voting percentages released by Big Brother were from the first vote freeze when Noky was evicted, any reason why we are putting those on the nominations table? MSalmon (talk) 09:59, 18 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]
