Untitled[edit]

Janis Joplin was born at St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur, Texas. I don't know where the article gets off with Austin, Tx as the hometown.

Orphaned references in Big Brother and the Holding Company[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Big Brother and the Holding Company's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

Cheaper Thrills[edit]

I've added this album to the discography, but I don't have the data to add to the article and incorporate it into the band's history. The album consists of material from 1966-1967 when Joplin was with the group, and it wasn't released until 1984. It has been released in 2000 as an import CD on the Acadia label. Possible issue with facts about original nude album cover idea for Cheap Thrills album[edit]

While this article states that idea for the original nude album cover idea for the album [[Cheap Thrills}} was the record companies idea and it was the band that rejected it, the Cheap Thrills article says the opposite. Is Cheap Thrills technically a Heavy Metal album?[edit]

I mean, the songs on the album are pretty heavy, plus the guitars are rather loud and sludgy. Surely, this album could have possibly influenced the Heavy Metal genre? — Preceding unsigned comment added by ASDJHSAIUDHSAUID (talk • contribs) 14:21, 2 January 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Rock sub genres are not "technical", they are pretty much subjective. For example, Cheap Thrills is more "blues rock" than "psychedelic", but it still considered "psychedelic" because it was born out of the San Francisco psychedelic scene. Heavy Metal was born out of blues rock and acid rock music, so many songs of the period could easily be considered "heavy metal", but since Big Brother roots were in SF psychedelic scene, their heavy sound was considered "acid rock". Usually "heavy metal" is used to describe post 1969 heavy music. But again, this kind of thing us really subjective. For example, many consider Led Zeppelin a heavy metal band, but Jimmy Page himself think LZ is only "blues rock". What happened in late 60s is that a lot of bands were mixing a lot of different styles and trying different stuff, so a lot of sub genres have their roots in this period, like funk rock, progressive rock, hard rock and heavy metal. Basic information to add to this article: where the name came from. Both Big Brother (from George Orwell's novel Nineteen Eighty-Four) and holding companies (which U.S. president Franklin D.
