"Uncontroversial" requested move[edit]

A move request was made to move this page from its current name to the subject's full name. This was presented as uncontroversial. As stated at WP:RM, I think that this request is not uncontroversial - this cricketer was well-known as "Bill Hunt" e.g. [1],[2] and thus this page name may be more appropriate per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people)#Middle names and abbreviated names. More evidence is required that he is best known as William Alfred Hunt before a page move should be considered. --94.169.142.151 (talk) 04:04, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Move?[edit]

The following discussion is an archived discussion of a requested move. Please do not modify it. Subsequent comments should be made in a new section on the talk page. No further edits should be made to this section.

The result of the move request was: not moved. Clear consensus this should stay where it is. Dpmuk (talk) 00:12, 18 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Bill HuntWilliam Alfred Hunt — Actual, full name. Romkeh (talk) 00:22, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

  • Not uncontroversial - this cricketer was well-known as "Bill Hunt" e.g. [3],[4] and thus this page name may be more appropriate per Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people)#Middle names and abbreviated names. More evidence is required that he is best known as William Alfred Hunt. --94.169.142.151 (talk) 03:52, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose – per WP:COMMONNAME you use the common name of the person. In the two websites that 94.169.142.151 linked, the person in questions was listed as "Bill Hunt". Unless it can be demonstrated, that the person in question, is more commonly referred by their full name, then the article should stay where it current is at. gu1dry • ¢  10:02, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose; only available sources says "Bill Hunt" [5]. Powers T 15:27, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
  • Oppose our common name guideline is clear on this. For Example we use Tom Cruise and not Thomas Cruise Mapother IV. Also directly relevant we used Bill Clinton and not his full name either. There are several more examples.--76.66.180.54 (talk) 18:19, 10 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]
