Missing Information

This reads too much like the jacket cover of one of Bill's books. There needs to be more NPOV information. Things like James Bradshaw and his connection to Bill and EAS. Bill and his parntership with Dr. Scott Connelly and Met-Rx. Bill's benign tumor in 1995. Bill's infidelities and (failed) relationship with Ami Cusack. Bill's connection to Jose Canseco. The failure of Muscle Media from 1996 onwards. That Bill is a big Jim Carrey fan.

It just feels like this article is the coporate bio that Bill's agent would fax to a newspaper - it's very one-sided. I'll start adding some stuff as soon as I can verify all the info. Yankees76 16:03, 23 February 2006 (UTC)

Fair call. It wasn't meant to look that way but the stuff you mention is a lot harder to verify! (yes I'm lazy) Thankfully there's the MM2K CD-Rom which is searchable so I'll hunt some more out too. Great job! (Yep I have the same photo - ghastly!) Hey you may wanna reference a couple of the claims on there. I added that he would have pics in MM2K with the bunnies so that's cool (phew!) and Sly and Demi were mentioned in MM2K - is that where you read about Jose? Oh, and the engagement info do you recall where that's from? I'll see if I can find some refs in any issues of MM2K, otherwise could be seen as libellous (by Bill I mean). Thanks! With the info, if it's in MM2K or any other magazine it could be considered public domain. I pulled much of the personal info from Testoterone.net (the Jose reference specifically)[2] and the Cusack and cancer references [3]. Interestingly, Cusack was a lesbian during the season of Survivor she was on, makes me wonder. Yankees76 14:11, 24 February 2006 (UTC)

Citing reference

As someone who read MM2K for a few years around a decade ago, both the updates and the background are surprising.

If you're looking for "what's next" for improving the article, I think it needs more specific information about which references back up which statements. Right now there are a lot of controversial statements, and a list of links. This is especially important for Wikipedia articles on living persons.

The best way to give a reference for a statement is like this:

Overuse of "Citation Needed" Tags

The article is in need of in-line citations yes, however much of the material being tagged as is referenced in the material under "References" and some of the existing in-text external links that are not in the reference section. A clean up of the references, including the external links would be a good place to start instead of plastering the article with tags. Removal of Inaccurate Statement and Reference

Supplement Genius is NOT a reliable source and not suitable for content in an article about a living person

1) There is NO indication of who is responsible for the website [4]. 2) Scott Welch is apparently not a notable person whose personal web site MIGHT be allowed as a source. 3) The content is listed under "Browse > Home / Supplement Gossip / MUSCLE INSIDER " Gossip, which again is not suitable sourcing for content in an article about living persons. I beg to differ. Muscle Insider is a bodybuilding magazine [5] with distribution in 41 countries (and contributors that include Scott Connelly, Charles Poliquin, Charles Glass, Greg Kovacs and numerous other industry notables)[6], of which Welch (aka The Supplement Genius) is the owner (Welch Publishing) and editor-in-chief, which makes him/his magazine a reliable source, the same way FLEX, Ironman, MuscleMag or any published magazine is. The source (now sources) directly supports the information as it is appropriately presented in an article.

If you really want to get picky, here's another source from the former Editor in Chief of the Muscle Media itself[7] outlining the same thing. Either way the information is accurate and now has two sources. There are probably many more as the decline and fall of Muscle Media after the July 1997 issue is a well covered topic - particularly in bodybuilding and publishing circles. --Yankees76 (talk) 13:51, 31 March 2010 (UTC)

I would also add that self-published material like the Supplement Genius blog is acceptable when produced by an established expert on the topic of the article whose work in the relevant field has previously been published by reliable third-party publications. Welch has had articles in MuscleMag, DXL and Muscle Insider, you can find his articles with pictures in late 90's/early 2000's issues of MuscleMag. Welch also attempted to purchase the rights to Muscle Media before launching Muscle Insider, and then founded Welch Publishing, which produces Muscle Insider. This makes him an expert on the magazine and the bodybuilding publishing industry as a whole and a reliable source for background information on Muscle Media. This article has a history of being edited by individuals with a conflict of interest with the subject (ie: writing it like a press release, removing sourced information, and even claiming they're editing on Bill's behalf - usually to write the article as they see fit, removing or modifying any references to steroids, Muscle Media, TC Luoma, Dan Duchaine bodybuilding etc.).
