This Bill Gross vs. Bill Gross of PIMCO[edit]

This isn't particularly a big deal -- but is this Bill Gross really more well-known than the mutual fund manager? Bill Gross of PIMCO is the world's biggest bond fund manager and one of the most important people in the US financial system. This guy is just another Silicon Valley entrepreneur... in those terms, the other Bill Gross is like Bill Gates or Steve Jobs. Just throwing out the idea that they could be switched. Agreed. Google:["bill gross" idealab] 15,700; ["bill gross" pimco] 134,000. In both cases, "William" is far less commonly used to refer to them. If there is no opposition, I will move this Bill Gross to Bill Gross (entrepreneur) and the other one to Bill Gross (with a hatnote, of course). --macrakis (talk) 21:03, 22 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]

That's a good idea, but I don't think it was ever implemented. I tried to find Bill Gross of PIMCO and got here first. That isn't right. As Afelton and Macrakis said above, this Bill Gross should be on the disambiguation page (if not deleted entirely), and Bill Gross searchers should be directed first to the article, William H. Gross.

I also agree. Bill Gross of PIMCO is clearly more notable than this Bill Gross. I have renamed this article for clarification and redirected Bill Gross to William H. Gross. However, I am unable to move "William H. Gross" to "Bill Gross" to adhere to Wikipedia:Naming conventions (people)#Nicknames, pen names, stage names, cognomens. I will need to request an administrator to perform such a move to retain the page's history. -Bluedog423^Talk 04:44, 17 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Notability is questionable[edit]

The notability of this Bill Gross is questionable. Just because you're the CEO of a company or on a company's board or founded a company doesn't make you notable. Other factors have to exist for you to be notable.

I know a guy who founded a small technology company in California. He's on the board of a couple of tech companies in Silicon Valley. He even invented an electronic device that goes in many wireless routers. But he still ISN'T notable! Neither is this guy (or so I suspect). The point is that a person may have achieved things in his/her life but still not be notable per Wikipedia guidelines.

Someone who's invested in this article should determine notability and then give a thumbs up or down on this article as a whole. ask123 (talk) 12:51, 29 March 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Less Notable History - Gross Co-Founded 80's Unique Arcade[edit]

Not super important but perhaps goes to breadth of startup experience - this Nov 1982 Atari Coin Connection article shows a photo of Bill Gross working on a robot and describes a somewhat unique arcade Gross co-founded in the 80's along with some of Gross' Cal Tech background.
