A biomimetic materials probably more likely is made either to mimic a biological material OR is produced by mimicking a biological procedure, rather than specifically have to interact with the extracellular matrix although it probably does anyway at least when it is contact with any ECM. I also thought that a biomimetic material could be defined in much broader terms, e.g. as an engineered material that copies structural features found in nature (often at a microscopic level). Ahw001 (talk) 13:31, 17 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

This article is only about a specific class of biomimetic materials. Any material inspired by nature is biomimetic. Thus, we can also try to imitate mechanical properties or other properties.
