I don't know how to alter the actual articles in Wiki so I'll mention it here. On the Birds Australia article there should be some mention of the two observatories - Eyre and Broome. I have worked at the Broome Bird Observatory for 9 months this year.

Control of Newhaven Station is being handed over to the Australian Wildlife Conservancy due to lack of funds on Birds Australia's part. Birds Australia will have a lot of say in what goes on though. (unsigned person)

Merge Issue[edit]

It seems that there is a lack of interest in these two arts. The RAOU and the Birds Aust - as two separate era, - if someone is prepared to put the effort into giving a good sense of the pioneering work that the old generation of the RAOU did in Australia - otherwise merge if no-one is going to do the history thing. The RAOU and Birds Australia are two names for the same organisation, so there is no reason why these articles should not be merged. Birds Australia is a user-friendly 'front' name for what is still legally the Royal Australasian Ornithologists Union. Maias 07:29, 20 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

One problems seems to be a lack of historical importance of the RAOU in its day if it gets absorbed, headings and other things should not let the current identity swamp the earlier stages of the organisation IMHO :) User:SatuSuro 07:03, 29 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I understand your concerns but think they can be addressed in the way the introduction is written and then perhaps by a paragraph about the RAOU days. Are there any Australians birders who might have an opinion? Would it help if we copy this to the talk page the merge tags point ot and continue the discussion there? I do think that a merge is desirable. After all it only one organisation we are discussing. I would prefer merging BA into RAOU rather than the other way because, as I have said, RAOU continues to be the legal entity and official name. Moreover, if you look at the latest issue of the journal, Emu, it says that it is published by CSIRO Publishing on behalf of the RAOU. I am also adding some content to the RAOU page and have some concerns about how this will come out in a RAOU to BA merge. Whichever way we go, anyway, I think the sooner the better. I intend to go ahead with this merge proposal in the near future on the grounds that RAOU is the legal and fundamental title of the organisation. If there is further argument please comment. Maias 13:01, 15 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I see that you have reversed the mergeto and mergefrom tags to indicate that the preference has moved to moving Birds to RAOU. Excellent. I was going to suggest it. After they have been left like that for a while, I support the merge.
