Golf?[edit]

The article, in referring to the historical names of the city, says "ubbon = golf", it used to say "hippo = horse" there. Does golf mean golf, the game invented in 15th-century Scotland played with sticks and a ball? It seems unlikely - if it's another meaning, it should be explained. Orphaned references in Bizerte[edit]

I check pages listed in Category:Pages with incorrect ref formatting to try to fix reference errors. One of the things I do is look for content for orphaned references in wikilinked articles. I have found content for some of Bizerte's orphans, the problem is that I found more than one version. I can't determine which (if any) is correct for this article, so I am asking for a sentient editor to look it over and copy the correct ref content into this article.

"The Phoenician name"[edit]

is nothing of the sort. There isn't a "c" in Punic or its transcription and both sources provided clearly state that "Hippo Acra" is one of the (latinized) Greek names of the place. Punic is basically upscale Hebrew and is from an entirely different language family from Greek and Latin. — LlywelynII 00:52, 2 November 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Reference to archaeologists? Date of first Phoenecian settlement?"[edit]

These two statements have no citation, and are inconsistent with each other. And the second is not even a statement, it is a dangling conditional clause.

Why isn't Wikidata applied in these pages?[edit]

Isn't there an effort to make all infoboxes retrieve their information from Wikidata or this is only limited to some Wikipedia languages such as Wikipedia Arabic where most pages refer their Infobox data to Wikidata? even from a template beauty perspective, this one is quite honestly not that appealing — Preceding unsigned comment added by Mouath14 (talk • contribs) 10:59, 27 September 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Founding date[edit]

I removed the following text from the lead which contradicts itself.

It is one of the oldest known settlements in Tunisia, having been founded by settlers from the Phoenician port of Sidon around 1100 BC. Although archaeologists have established that no Phoenician settlements in the West Mediterranean date to before the 9th century bc.

It would be nice to have something about the founding of the city in the lead (and in the article body) but this is far enough outside my wheelhouse that I'll leave it to somebody else to fix. Botterweg14 (talk) 15:00, 21 August 2022 (UTC)[reply]
