Naming?[edit]

A few issues here, what is the source on the name "black christmas". I have never heard anyone refer to it as black christmas, not even the media. It is good however to name these things properly before something stupid becomes popular, so I question the term "black christmas" christmas obviously because it was the 25th of december, but black? was the smoke in sydney black? bushfire smoke carried over distance is grey in colour, tending blue-grey, and can be orange/yellow/red if fire is present beneath the smoke, but I've never seen black bushfire smoke, only when it burns structures, and even then the black is difused by the natural greyish colour. Consider revising the name. Perhaps something like "grey christmas", or something more descriptive and apropriate like: "2001/2002 NWS Bushfire season" or "2001 NSW bushfires". well actually ive heard that as the phrase used to describe them and in the dcd entitled "western sydney firestorm" which is about the fires they refer to it as such.Raya 85 11:35, 1 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, the term "black chirstmas" in reference was only a news headline at the time and hansn't gone down in legend such as "Ash Wednesday" or other infamous fires.

Edited - rest of this post previously referred to content that relates to 2004 bushfires and not the 2001 ones and has been deleted. PeterB666 (talk) 13:32, 29 October 2008 (UTC) Edited PeterB666 (talk) 11:40, 1 November 2008 (UTC)[reply]

I agree, I had never heard of "Black Christmas" before. I'm currently trying to standardise the names of Australian bushfire articles. If there is a "notorious" name such as "Black Sunday", "Ash Wednesday", I think that's a pretty obvious name, but what about this one where there are multiple fire fronts and no obvious over-arching name? What about Warragamba Bushfires (2001)?--Yeti Hunter (talk) 07:56, 24 January 2009 (UTC) peace i love the world and keep the world safe do no reek it AND HAVE FUN BUSH FIRE BUSH FIRE BUSH FIRES ARE DANGEROUS.[reply]
