BBV more than just voting machines?

Is it still Black Box Voting if the voting methods are paper-oriented but the votes are counted in a "black box" that the public doesn't have access to? Josquin 22:38, Nov 24, 2004 (UTC)

I believe it is within the systems of voting be they scanning machines or touch screen voting. The idea of BBV is that there needs to be some monitoring where the public has access and a way to verify just like a "Black Box". See next heading. PEACETalkAbout 19:26, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

HBO Special on BBV

This I think needs to be included in the article as a must do item. As soon as can get copy I will research some of the events. The special shows Bev Harris and crew running around the country dump diving in election departments trash bins and finding "Official" election tabulation tapes that By Law should remain within the elections department as part of the "Official" record that is used to "certify" the election as per Federal Law. I think this movement will gain momentum once people realize that the systems needs some work. The special sure caught my interest in that it shows many security flaws and outright deception about the accuracy of some systems.PEACETalkAbout 19:26, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Bev's edits

Bev Harris of BlackBoxVoting.org, removed some key information that is now added back. Some of her edits were great and just need sources others don't seem to be related to Black Box Voting, but more so to her cause in general.

  • In federal elections in Canada, and in the United Kingdom, votes are cast with paper ballots, and Canadians usually get election results the same night. A key difference in these systems is the number of questions on the ballot. Typically national hand count elections are performed with only one or two questions on the ballot. There is still a significant amount of hand counting taking place on the multi-question ballots used in the U.S. Hand counts are performed in 45% of the jurisdictions in New Hampshire, with complex ballots containing many races. New Hampshire hand count jurisdictions produce election results are obtained on election night. [citation needed]
