Archaeic Language[edit]

"The mulattos patterned their lives after "polite" white society." Just the 'mulattos', or also the quadroons, octaroons, etc? The 'one drop rule' was invented in Virginia, and was adjusted in South Carolina to '1/8th or more' because of the 'mixed race' background of their elites, specifically the Gibson family. Article should be combined with topic African-American upper class[edit]

the article African-American upper class is much more complete and well organized. It would do well to add this text to the other topic. That would also take care of the POV flag, because the other article is specifically about USA.

POV tag[edit]

This concerns POV tag cleanup. Whenever an POV tag is placed, it is necessary to also post a message in the discussion section stating clearly why it is thought the article does not comply with POV guidelines, and suggestions for how to improve it. This permits discussion and consensus among editors. From WP tag policy: Drive-by tagging is strongly discouraged. The editor who adds the tag must address the issues on the talk page, pointing to specific issues that are actionable within the content policies, namely Wikipedia:Neutral point of view, Wikipedia:Verifiability, Wikipedia:No original research and Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. Simply being of the opinion that a page is not neutral is not sufficient to justify the addition of the tag. Tags should be added as a last resort. Better yet, edit the topic yourself with the improvements. This statement is not a judgement of content, it is only a cleanup of frivolously and/or arbitrarily placed tags. No discussion, no tag.Jjdon (talk) 21:44, 1 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Needs sources and improved content[edit]

As it stands, this article could be deleted because of its lack of sources, which means few statements can be verified. It appears to be Original Research (OR) or a personal essay. It has way too many generalities: some members of the black elite in the UK or the US may be of mixed race, but not all mulattos, quadroons or maroons entered the black elite in either society. These categories were referred to as "more black elites" in a See Also section. Maroons often stayed clear of mainstream society, isolated where they were autonomous.
