The synopsis is nothing but a verbatim copy of the liner notes from the musical CD. Is that legit? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.64.110.158 (talk) 17:06, 28 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

  • This new user did not create the article with sources, but the play does appear to be notable. [1], [2]

Possible Deletion[edit]

I don't know what can be done to update or better this page. It's being contested for the second time and I have no clue as to why... Once again I will state that this musical IS generating alot of buzz in the LA theatre seen, IS being put on by the most famous theater company in LA (responsible for multiple tony award winning productions Like Angels In America), IS being directed by Alex Timbers, whose work has won him an Obie and garnered two Drama Desk Award nominations...

If you still consider it bull, then your all pretentious elitists. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 76.170.214.210 (talk) 21:48, 25 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Update... this section, despite its poor attitude, seems to be moot now. The show is opening on Broadway in a few weeks, which ought to seal its place in Wikipedia. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.68.151.16 (talk) 02:53, 7 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Neutrality[edit]

Certain statements about the treatment of Native American history in this musical are misleading. While this is obviously a sensitive issue, it is equally wrong to misrepresent the problem as it is to ignore it.

The sentences in question: "The play is a satire and therefore, does not reflect an historically accurate portrayal of the political and American Indian leaders depicted. The historical facts about Indian Removal under Andrew Jackson are marginalized into order to ensure that the theater-goer experiences a fast and fun ride through what is one of the bloodiest periods in American history."

(The first sentence is of course wholly true -- of course the play is not historically accurate -- but it is used as a misleading segue into the second.)

The use of the word "marginalized" is particularly biased, as it implies that the musical somehow dismisses, ignores, or apologizes for the Indian Removal Acts. And there is NO basis offered whatsoever for the creators' desire to ensure "a fast and fun ride through what is one of the bloodiest periods in American history."

In fact, one of the major concerns of the musical is Jackson's treatment of American Indians, which is depicted as atrocity based in cruel bigotry. Yes, there are laughs and loud music mixed in along the way, but this is arguably to make the reality of genocide more chilling when it is confronted seriously near the end of the show.

^ Andrew Jackson hunted down Black Slaves in the Florida Swamps who were running away seeking freedom from their masters. Either that or he returned them to bondage. We must never forget that Jackson was an Extremely Bloody Oppressor, an unrepentant Slave Owner from the South who sometimes used them for his sexual escapades while being portrayed as a supposed military hero.

In any case, support is needed for these heavily opinionated statements, and a more neutral view should be given. Yes, there are historical inaccuracies in the depiction of Native American history; no, these are not made for the sake of "marginalizing" Jackson's horrendous mistreatment, coercion, and murder of indigenous American peoples. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 74.68.151.16 (talkcontribs) 02:52, 7 September 2010

I removed the prod as these issues to have been addressed.Americasroof (talk) 17:51, 18 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Plagiarism[edit]

The "Synopsis" section (with the exception of the last sentence) has been copied in it's entirety from the liner notes synopsis included with the cast recording. Should this be deleted? Patrickmcg (talk) —Preceding undated comment added 05:06, 31 December 2010 (UTC).[reply]

I have done my best to clean up and better summarize the show.Rebelpilot (talk) 16:11, 6 December 2011 (UTC)[reply]
