Not being a fan of science fiction[edit]

I sure couldn't find it. While I have criticisms of Ms. Hammer's decisions, even I would need backup for such a claim.

The claim was excised[edit]

I read the article the week it was published. The aforementioned claim was there; now it's not. I'm no conspiracy theorist but I think one of Hammer's reps quickly told the reporter to put the kibosh on that statement, lest someone reading it think she doesn't like the genre. She programmed SCI FI that way (a tactic still in use today), so why hide it and go all revisionist? What is this, Soviet Russia? Wikipedia depends on information to be verifiable through reliable sources. A reason akin to "trust me, it was there" is not acceptable for inclusion. You need to prove she said this, and the links you added do not. Furthermore, your recent edit is incredibly POV (e.g., "slavish devotion to antithetical programming") and still relies heavily on weasel wording (e.g., "still-rampant level of intense and vocal criticism"). The first source you provided criticizes the network, yes, but not Hammer's leadership specifically; this would be more suitable on the article of the channel itself. Not being a fan of science fiction Part 2[edit]

This information was entered into the article AGAIN. "Also, in a 2005 interview in the New York Times, Hammer even admitted that she's not a fan of science fiction at all." This information can be added as many times as the editor wants, but it isn't supported by the link offered. The link above is the article and there is nothing about Hammer liking or disliking science fiction. Stop adding it.

Large and hagiographic expansion/Conflict of interest[edit]

A major edit from 173.213.212.247 removed some critical material (itself not particularly well-sourced or well-written) and added a very large amount that (at first inspection) looks rather...well...un-encyclopedic. It certainly would need wikification and serious copyediting to get up to our stylistic standards, to say nothing of the content. For one thing it has absolutely nothing bad to say about her, which is strange, since a substantial proportion of the Internet seems to think she's the Devil. That isn't to say that we should say she's the Devil or even take much note of that opinion, but the utter absence of anything critical makes me highly suspicious. Considering that a subsequent user going by the completely unsuspicious moniker Cableentertainmentgroup changed the photo to a rather more flattering one and removed the BLP tag a mere week later, I suspect there may be some connection between the IP editor, "Cableentertainmentgroup", and Hammer herself. Proposed Changes to Update Bonnie Hammer Wikipedia[edit]

Hello, I am reaching out from NBCUniversal corporate communications, submitting the below edit request to get Bonnie Hammer’s Wikipedia page updated, as it contains out-of-date information pertaining to her role and oversight in the company. Bonnie Hammer is currently the chairman of NBCUniversal Content Studios, overseeing production studios at the company. I am available for any questions regarding the below request. See below for the list of requested edits with citations.

OVERVIEW SECTION:

1. Bonnie Hammer is a network and studio executive. She serves as Chairman, NBCUniversal Content Studios, and is no longer Chairman of NBCUniversal Cable. This change happened in 2019. In her current role, she oversees Universal Content Productions, Universal Television, and NBCUniversal International Studios. [1]
2. The Sci-Fi Channel should be updated to read SYFY (in all caps), per the network’s Wikipedia page. [2]
3. DELETE: Esquire Network, TV One, Chiller, Cloo, and Universal HD, as those networks are no longer active. [3] [4] [5] [6]
4. ADD: Universal Kids, which is also an NBCU Cable network. [7]
5. Universal Cable Productions should be updated to read Universal Content Productions. “The studio recently changed its name from Universal Cable Productions to Universal Content Productions in a move to signify its expansion to streaming” [8]

CAREER SECTION:

1. The citation that was needed for the sentence “Here, Hammer partnered with Vince McMahon to transform the WWF franchise into a cultural phenomenon.” McMahon says “She just came in and rolled up her sleeves. She taught us a lot about network quality writing, story arcs, character development. She really helped the overall brand.” [9]
2. AdAge dubbed Bonnie as “the woman who helped build cable's USA into the set-top-box powerhouse” [10]
3. Hammer has been through six management changes through USA Network: “Comcast’s acquisition of NBCUniversal represented Ms. Hammer’s sixth management transition. Her retention was never in doubt. The old NBC regime, under General Electric, had long cited USA as NBCUniversal’s most prized asset, and tried to keep her happy — to a point.” [11]

7. ADD: Outside of NBCUniversal, Bonnie Hammer serves on the Board of Directors of eBay and IAC/InteractiveCorp. She also sits on the AFI Board of Trustees, and the Board of Governors for the MPTF Foundation. [15] [16] [17]

DELETE: “Her current plans as NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment Chairman are to re-evaluate and adapt NBCUniversal channels to become less gender-based as there is a preconceived notion that many of the channels are only for women. This information is all outdated, as Bonnie no longer oversees NBCUniversal Cable Entertainment.

@EricaS97: Excellent. I'll go through these tomorrow and comment on any issues. One question which is jumping out at me, what does "Chairman, NBCUniversal Content Studios" mean? Usually Chairman (Chairperson?) refers to a position on a board of directors, but I gather this is an executive position within NBC's hierarchy? Regards, Tarl N. @Tarl N.: Correct, that is the title of the position throughout the company. It's above President level, reporting into the CEO. See here for Comcast's corporate site (Comcast is the parent company of NBCUniversal.) While likely in more PR-speak than will be uploaded here on Wikipedia, the bio in the reference here likely may be a helpful source for you. If needed, other Chairmen at the company include Mark Lazarus, if you just want to see another example of the position within the company. Thanks! Thanks, Tarl N.. Per your #1 question regarding NBCU International Studios, yes, that is the name of the studio. See here for articles discussing the name. That said, I do see that they don't have a page and that's okay to not have it linking to anything. See here. In the lede, can we capitalize Studio to match the name? @EricaS97: Do you have a citation which mentions the rename, or explicitly her change in title? This Hollywood reporter article is written by Ms. Hammer, so should generally not be used, per WP:PRIMARY. Hi Tarl...TV studios production is not this business unit. I am providing correct information. If you want to see NBCUniversal sources please see the two following links. There are additionaly various press releases that use this name. It is also used in the studio's campaigns and advertising. @EricaS97: I'm trying to find a press release announcing a reorganization or title change for Ms. Hammer, and coming up with a blank. What I found, dating to 4th of May 2020, confirms the title we have in her Wikipedia article: NBCUNIVERSAL ANNOUNCES NEW ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE. This article explicitly lists "Bonnie Hammer, Chairman of NBCUniversal Content Studios". For a rename of a a major division and/or title change, there would presumably be a press release of some kind some time after that date, but I can't find it. Please locate it for me. Tarl N. By the way, see also WP:NOTNEWS. Wikipedia does not have to be instantaneously updated. Particularly when it comes to internal divisions within a corporation being renamed - those renames are far too frequent to necessarily keep up to date. I note that NBCUniversal Content Studios is still listed by that name in its wikipedia article.
