De Valera[edit]

Does anyone object if I delete the passage 'President Éamon de Valera felt that the arts in Ireland were to be encouraged when they observed the "holiest traditions", but should be censored when they failed to live up to this ideal'? It implies that de Valera was responsible for the introduction of the Censorship of Publications Act, which he wasn't. Also, while no date for the quotation is given, the link from 'President' is to 'President of Ireland', suggesting that de Valera made the statement after 1959, so what relevance has it here?. Many examples of Irish politicians suggesting that censorship was a good thing could be found - why prioritise this one? --137.43.146.166 (talk) 07:16, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It would appear to be correctly referenced and seems to date from 'a speech to open Radio Eireann’s Athlone station in 1933' (see source) The link is easily remedied, if that is a problem. RashersTierney (talk) 09:44, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

It is correctly referenced, and many thanks for fixing the link and adding the date. I'm suggesting that there is no obvious reason for including the quotation at all as it gives De Valera undue prominence - he did not contribute to the introduction of the 1929 Act and his views were commonplace among politicians on all sides. It looks a lot better now, however, so I won't pursue the issue if you are happy with it.--137.43.146.166 (talk) 12:27, 3 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]
