Second-most recognizable North American sports trophy?[edit]

I'm deleting this reference - not only is it unsourced and unsupported, it's absurd on its face.

Although I was not the one who wrote it originally, I think I read that somewhere...I agree it is absurd. The source must have been an uninformed/biased source.

Well done on identifying yourselves, there. The statement of trophy means one SINGLE one, not new versions given out each year to new teams. The Vince Lombardi Trophy might be universally known in the United States, but there are multiple ones. Ice hockey and the 500-Mile Race have ONE trophy, with replicas, at best, dealt out. Name me another single-example trophy in North America owned by the event-holders themselves, with the renown of the Stanley Cup or Borg-Warner. --Chr.K. 07:27, 20 October 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Johnnie Parsons[edit]

I am quite curious about this facet because on a previous trip to the IMS Museum (early/mid 1990s), I specifically recall seeing that Parsons' name had been corrected (during the fall 1991 restoration). But it could have been a memory lapse. I made an effort to stop by the museum in May of 2006 during race weekend to check the trophy and see Parsons' name on it, but the trophy had been removed from display that afternoon so I couldn't see it. I think it would be very important for someone to track down this once and for all by visiting the museum and taking a photograph for proof purposes. Doctorindy 19:56, 10 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Note...a statement was made about Dan Wheldon's Baby Borg being presented at a trade show because of "extenuating circumstances." That is not true at all. Since at least the late 1990s, the Baby Borgs have been officially presented at automotive trade shows. It's handled completely by the Borg-Warner Company - it's not a Speedway award, it's a Borg-Warner award. Therefor B-W sometimes wants to showcase it in a setting that's fitting for them. Other times it's done at the museum...sometimes they have a ceremonial (i.e., a re-presentation) at the Drivers Meeting on the day before the race. But the fact that Wheldon's 2011 trophy was not done at the IMS Museum was not unusual. Doctorindy (talk) 19:51, 16 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]
