Untitled[edit]

Hi. Please help. On the Locks and Weirs on the River Lee England template this lock isn't shown. All the books and canal websites state there are 19 locks on the Navigation including the two on Limehouse Cut, but this picture proves there are 20.Bow Locks. Can anyone shed some light on this? This is a double lock - is this 19 & 20? Kbthompson (talk) 17:59, 8 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for the reply. I'm going to make some more enquiries with the canal people and establish why Bow Locks isn't included in their list of locks. I will keep you informed. Thanks Northmetpit (talk) 09:48, 9 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
OK, so it's just not listed at all? Until 2000, it was a tidal lock - maintaining the depth in the navigation channels and Limehouse Cut - apparently that was causing too much silting. It explains why I once got a lift on a coal barge - when walking - he dropped me off on 'my side' of the tow path, and then picked me up on the way back, as he couldn't get through the lock - tide must have been out! Looks to me Bow Locks is still missing from the template - also, the waterworks weir at Lee Bridge (controls flow into waterworks channel). Kbthompson (talk) 13:46, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Bow Locks added to template. Thanks Kb for the Waterworks river weir-a complete mystery to me. Entering uncharted waters as far as I'm concerned. Is it a River Lee weir? Thanks Northmetpit (talk) 20:06, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
It's the Middlesex Filter Beds Weir - a branch of the navigation scoots off to the east, past the filter beds (it's an overflow channel). There's a map - here. Kbthompson (talk) 23:15, 11 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]
