Proposed merger with Bradford Dukes would be wrong, as Halifax Dukes became Bradford Dukes and so were actually a completely different club to any of the other Bradfords. There is a case for merging the other Bradford/Odsall teams in the cases where just the name changed. —Preceding unsigned comment added by NattyBooshka (talkcontribs) 16:40, 3 October 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Disagree with the comment above. Just because the franchise and nickname moved from Halifax and Bradford, it's not the same team. If one were to categorize by franchise or nickname it would be practically impossible, therefore merging by the name of the town / city is better. Furthermore, a page per town / city is the standard that has been set with every other speedway team so a merger would be consistent.—Preceding unsigned comment added by Rcclh (talkcontribs) 17:03, 19 February 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I can see both points of view. The Dukes, when they moved WERE the Halifax team but as there was never a possibility of a return they immediately BECAME the Bradford team. I don't believe all names should be merged, how therefore would you find Odsal Boomerangs if there was no dedicated page under this name? The name change to Tudors was rider led, saying they hated the name Boomerangs although I wonder how much it was motivated by the name dying with Joe Abbott? The Panthers were a creation of a new promotion, Northern a valid attempt to bring in rugby league support and the Barons an attempt at change of fortune. Major note to all interested: the speedway at Odsal was always called ODSAL from 1945 to 1956 inclusive, not Bradford. It was run by Odsal Speedways Ltd. When they announced that they would not run in 1957, speedway at Odsal was saved by Oliver Hart, Ron Clarke (former Odsal riders) and Trevor Redmond (ex Wembley) to run open meetings. When Birmingham dropped out of the National League mid season, the Odsal promotion took over results and fixtures but became BRADFORD Tudors and the Odsal name never re-emerged. I think there should be an umbrella Bradford Speedway page which tells the basic story but links to all other pages. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 80.192.8.22 (talk) 17:23, 3 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The Bradford teams need merging and I will attempt to do so soon. It's quite inconceivable that every speedway team gets a new page with a new nickname. I appreciate there are examples where the promotion moves the same riders to a new town with the same nickname (Romford > West Ham, Oxford > White City) and I also appreciate there are some grey areas (Birmingham had 2 stadiums and 2 teams in the same league in the early days), but we need to draw the line somewhere so Bradford's teams have to be sub-sections in the same page Rcclh (talk) 14:00, 11 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
