WP:VG/A Assessment[edit]

Hi, I'm here from WP:VG/A. I'm here on behalf of the project to assess this article. As with all of my assessments, I will list what I think is good, what I think needs some improvement (and some pointers on how to fix it), and my final thoughts and a rating. So let's start with what is good:

  • Nice amount of sources. For an article this size, 22 sources isn't bad, and you're using them multiple times, which is good.
  • Good content in the opening paragraph. It's an appropriate length and contains some good information for an opening paragraph.
  • The gameplay section is thorough and informative, and readers who have never heard of the game would find it useful.

Now, what needs improvement:

  • The plot section about Settings is pretty long. Read WP:PLOT and condense the Settings section. It's not terribly bad, but it is too long. Done Johnnyfog 22:19, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • I've got issues with the source you have from GameFAQs. The reviewer you cite isn't an official reviewer, and isn't necessarily qualified. Try citing someone like the GameSpot or IGN official reviewers and not player reviewers. With citing player reviewers, it's almost like citing Wikipedia in an article "Just because we say it means it's true". This has to be fixed immediately, as this source isn't reliable. Done Johnnyfog 22:19, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • Is it necessary to cite the game that many times and different quotes from it? I'm not saying this is necessarily a bad thing; it's really not. But it does seem a little excessive. These sources can stay, but other sources might be better if you can find them. Done Johnnyfog 22:19, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
  • This isn't a problem, but I always say it because it's true: the article could use more sources. Then again, pretty much every article besides featured articles could use more sources. There is a good amount of sources, though.

Now, for the final thoughts: This article does have some issues that need to be resolved, especially in the GameFAQs source and a little bit of plot issue. However, despite all this, the article's quality is much better than Start-class. It is now officially a B-Class article, still mid-importance. Keep improving this article, I wouldn't be surprised if someday I see it listed as a Good Article. If you have any questions or comments, or you want me to look at the article again, please leave any comments at my talk page. Thanks. Redphoenix526 (Talk) 16:56, 21 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Re-assessment[edit]

The New Age Retro Hippie recently assessed this article without leaving any opinions on this page. After hounding the editor, I got a response in which he/she lists their issues with the article. However, they made the inconvenient choice of posting their response on my talk page and not this one. For simplicity's sake I am re-posting it here, though I'm not sure whether this is allowed or not. If it is a problem, contact me. Here is the original post: Johnnyfog (talk) 16:28, 24 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

For re-releases section should be rewritten a bit more - maybe separate the lead paragraph and the reception (sales, reviews). Development information for it would be nice as well. As for the original game, it could use more information on its development outside of localization, and we could use some sales for the game. I hope that helped. If you need assistance in finding sources or working on the article, get back to me and I'll do some digging. - The New Age Retro Hippie used Ruler! Now, he can figure out the length of things easily. 20:44, 11 December 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Image of the Characters[edit]

I do believe this image used to be on this page. http://breathoffire.neoseeker.com/w/i/breathoffire/thumb/7/70/CastBof1.jpg/350px-CastBof1.jpg I don't know why it isn't anymore. Why not put it back? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 71.185.250.170 (talk) 01:59, 1 July 2011 (UTC)[reply]

I went ahead and re-added the pic. As far as I can tell, the problem was that the fair-use rationale for the image no longer linked back to the article after it was moved from "Breath of Fire" to "Breath of Fire (video game)" some time ago and it got swept. Box art[edit]

Yeah, using the SFC box art for this and its sequel doesn't make sense. People reading the English language Wikipedia likely identify this with the SNES box art. --Jtalledo (talk) 13:03, 19 November 2022 (UTC)[reply]
