Brian O'Neill → Brian Francis O'Neill — I currently have an article on a Brian O'Neill that is ready to be moved into mainspace. Since I don't have a middle name for that person that I can use for disambiguation, I'm suggesting moving this article to Brian Francis O'Neill and putting the new article here. This will allow both pages to exist at titles without disambiguous additions such as (Hockey Executive) or (GGNRA Superintendent). A hat note on either page can direct people to the other, and the dozen or so links currently pointed here can be redirected. --Falcorian ^(talk) 02:06, 7 June 2009 (UTC)

Sure, disambiguation is somewhat unsightly, but unless you're going to restrict the encyclopedia to one entry under every possible name, it's a reasonable solution, more reasonable that moving every article to three names. Ed Fitzgerald _{t / c} 03:46, 8 June 2009 (UTC)

Unfortunately the move you're suggesting would violate one of Wikipedia's key policies: use common names of persons and things. Brian O'Neill is not generally known by his middle name and therefore it's unreasonable to expect that readers know his middle name in order to find this article. The use of middle names or initials simply for disambiguation purposes is explicitly mentioned in this naming convention guideline: "Adding middle names, or their abbreviations, merely for disambiguation purposes (that is: if this format of the name is not the commonly used one to refer to this person) is not advised." Simply move Brian O'Neill to Brian O'Neill (ice hockey) (the standard dab for ice hockey related articles) and move your article to Brian O'Neill (superintendent) (or something along those lines). Then make Brian O'Neill the main dab page. – Nurmsook! ^talk... 01:06, 8 June 2009 (UTC)
