Images and Additional Information needed[edit]

Now we have more information about the railway facilities (thank you!) this article is crying out for some archive photos...

Also, on reading the section about tender-first running, I wanted to get some idea of how many miles the crews had to run in this way (ie how far the MPD is from the termini mentioned). This could be tricky given the several termini served, but (eg) "...involved running 5-6 miles each way..." could be added. (If necessary, a footnote could mention the exact distance from each, to satisfy the pedants!) BTW, I don't have the information to be able to add this myself.

Here's half an answer. Using Sectional Appendix Module 2, Charing X to London Bridge (High level) is 1 Mile 69 Chains (Ref SO130/005). London Bridge (Lo level) to B Arms junction is 2 Miles 12 Chains (Ref SO510/003). So that's just about 4 miles. However I have absolutely no idea of the distance from B Arms Junction to the MPD. From anecdotes it was quite a few miles - does anyone have a map? Also whilst I have a shed load of photos, sadly I don't have the copyright for any of them. Yes - there's one in the article - it's this one. Now given that Bricklayers Arms loco shed was tucked in between Bricklayers Arms goods station (SER) and Willow Walk goods station (LBSCR), both of which are shown on that map, I think we can take the average of their distances.

London Bridge HL to Surrey Canal Jc is 17 chains + 78 ch + 61 ch + 41 ch = 2 miles 37 chains

Surrey Canal Jc to Bricklayers Arms Goods is 54 + 28 + 63 chains = 1 mile 65 chains total 4 miles 22 ch

Surrey Canal Jc to Willow Walk is 54 + 28 + 43 + 11 ch = 1 mile 56 chains total 4 miles 13 ch

Thus, the total average distance from London Bridge High Level to Bricklayers Arms is 4 miles 17.5 chains. If we add on 1 mile 69 ch for ChX - LBHL, that gives 6 miles 6.5 chains. --Redrose64 (talk) 19:05, 16 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Closure of the Bricklayers' Arms[edit]
