Jack Pye[edit]

Was Jack Pye ever champion? Talskiddy 11:45, 26 July 2006 (UTC)[reply]

In 1933, Pye came close to beating Atholl Oakley for the British heavy-weight title. --- Paulley
yes i saw that but another webpage claims this...
In 1934, Jack Pye fought Clark - who travelled from his home at Birkby, Huddersfield, to train at The Saltpans near Allonby - for the British all-in heavyweight crown back. He was probably the best known of the fighting Pyes and later to be British champion. He was a real crowd favourite, a baddie they all loved to hate. But then he wasn't called 'Dirty' Jack Pye for nothing.

well i havent found any mention of him being champion anywhere else though there is some blurred segments in the time line of the British title and there is also various disputed claims which this maybe one off --- Paulley

Competed for?[edit]

Isn't this misleading (first line)? Shouldn't it say something like ostensibly "competed" for?--Kotniski (talk) 09:24, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Your right, it is misleading. I re-wrote the intro making it more in keeping with other articles of its type. --- Paulley (talk) —Preceding comment was added at 10:41, 13 January 2008 (UTC)[reply]
