Provisional Cavalry Act of 1796[edit]

Does anybody know what this actually did? Austin Gee's book suggests that volunteer cavalry had been established by the Volunteer Act of 1794. Alansplodge (talk) 20:44, 1 May 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Volunteer Cavalry and Yeomanry[edit]

Me again - does anybody know the difference (if any) between Volunteer Cavalry and Yeomanry? I suspect that they are the same thing except that Yeomanry were from the countryside (manned by yeoman farmers) and Volunteer Cavalry were from towns. I can't find a reference to confirm this. You could try the [only] book referenced on the Yeomanry article. There are a few copies on sale on Amazon (UK) from 99p, if you can't get hold of it online or from a library. Note that article states the difference in the lead, also, assuming it's right, and there are a fair few Yeomanry articles linked in the last section which might offer other sources to look out for.
