Replacing Ace Frehley[edit]

Changed this to "replacing Mark St. John." Frehley left the band and was replaced by Vinnie Vincent, who was fired and replaced by Mark St. John. Kulick took over when St. John was unable to play live shows (and summarily fired).

Birthday[edit]

Updated Bruce's birthday to reflect December 12, 1953, previously reported as December 14. Check KISSOnline.com today (12/12/07) for the citation, they wish him Happy Birthday. 209.254.200.110 (talk) 16:55, 12 December 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Is this really relevant?[edit]

"When Ace Frehley again left Kiss (in 2002, after the Farewell Tour), Kulick was apparently not asked to rejoin (reasons unknown); instead the band hired former Black 'n Blue guitarist and Kiss manager Tommy Thayer."

Here's my thinking:

  • First, Kiss "didn't ask" a lot of people (to be facetious, I wasn't asked either!), not just Bruce Kulick.
  • Second, Kulick was already involved with his band Grand Funk Railroad when Frehley left.
  • Third, Tommy Thayer:
    • Was already involved with the Kiss organization and was immediately available, not being involved in other projects.
    • Had already filled in for Frehley on several occasions when Frehley was a no-show.
    • Had previously played "Frehley" in a Kiss tribute band and was very familiar with Frehley's material.
    • Had been responsible for "re-teaching" Frehley's solos to Frehley when Frehley rejoined Kiss -- Frehley had apparently forgotten much of the material he was going to be playing, and Thayer knew it already.

So, I think there's a lot of rationale for Kiss choosing Thayer rather than asking anyone else, although I know this can't be referenced. I think the original sentence may violate WP:NPOV; it sort of sounds like someone likes Kulick, didn't understand Kiss' decision, and may be projecting this into the article. Any thoughts? I have left the sentence intact for now but may remove it later.

Bullet Point #2 is very relevant: Kulick was already a member of another popular band. For all we know, he may have been asked and declined. Another thought: he was a member during the "unmasked years" and he may have been unwilling to don Freheley's Space Ace costume and makeup. (Stanley and Simmons have stated, after Eric Singer put on Criss's Cat Man costume, that they were never going to create any more characters: Eric Carr's fox and Vinnie Vincent's ankh-warrior were the end of the series.) A Third Member Who Didn't Use a Stage Name[edit]

Minor point: Paul Freheley was (supposedly) known as Ace Freheley before he was in the band. It wasn't a stage name. So arguably, he too was using his real name. Timothy Horrigan (talk) 06:22, 28 November 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Motorhead[edit]

I was under the impression he played with motorhead, specifically at the Wrestlemania that they performed at — Preceding unsigned comment added by 81.99.34.34 (talk) 02:11, 10 July 2012 (UTC)[reply]
