Was the idea that "Bruce" might be a stereotypical name for an Australian originated before then, or did it have some currency before then? Did they possibly get it from the line "Let me abos go loose Bruce" in Rolf Harris's Tie me kangaroo down sport. So does this originate because it rhymes with "loose"? My impression has always been that they wouldn't have used the name Bruce for every character in the sketch if it weren't already a stereotype. I looked it up just now and Bruce is in the top 70 of all men's names in Victoria, Australia since 1929 (though most of them were born in the 40s and 50s—it was the 21st most popular name in the 1940s). It was probably a stereotype already, but they surely helped popularize it. --DearPrudence (talk) 10:14, 30 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]
