disambiguation[edit]

I've just added an article on Bryce State Mental Hospital in Alabama, which is popularly just called "Bryce". I feel like there needs to be some disambiguation. I'm posting here before I do anything so I can hear input on whether a separate disambiguation page should be created at Bryce or if you would rather have a disambiguation link in this article. Real disambiguation[edit]

I'd like to turn Bryce into a disambiguation page and move the current content to Bryce (software). I don't really think that the software is anywhere near the most-common use of the phrase (see bryce canyon's what links here, for example), and it also refers not only to a hospital but is a last name as well. So this page (plain Bryce) would be a dab pointing to the other versions. Is "Bryce (software)" the best new name for this article? Elf | Talk 18:24, 2 March 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Trivia[edit]

I worked with Kai Krause on the creation of the Bryce project, and it may be of interest to some that the late Douglas Adams, author of the "Hitchhiker's Guide To the Galaxy" series of books, was the first official beta tester of Bryce 1.0. We got off a plane in London and delivered it to him personally. He subsequently created the cover art to the next paperback reissue of the series using Bryce. That series, with Douglas' Bryce artwork on the covers, can still be found in bookstores around the world today. Jargonaut 12:26, 4 January 2007 (UTC)[reply]

This page is written way too much like a promotional piece. It needs to be toned down to only include information which has been published in third-party sources. It was still too much of a "how-to guide", which violates WP:NOT guidelines. I removed that section, as well as most of the unreferenced statements in the article. Let's try to stick with only re-adding information that's referenced to external sources, per WP:V, and I think the article will improve considerably. --Elonka 02:54, 30 May 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Well, I'm okay on listing some features, if we can provide links to third-party reviews which specifically mention those features. But so far the article doesn't provide any evidence that the software is even known outside of the hobbyist community. Daily link removal????[edit]

Forgive me if I have formated this wrong or in the wrong spot. I have been trying to add this link *Free 3D Human DazStudio/Poser Figure:Apollo Maximus to the page for over a week. Yet is is being removed without discussion or explaination.

My attempt to add this link to Poser's and Daz STudio's pages have also been summarily removed on a daily basis.

I have checked the terms of use and it seems fine. This site is relevant and not commercial in any way. It does seem that it keeps getting removed without discussion. My attempt to re add it, and not ebing entirely familiar with this site's very complicated commication process has lead me here.

It seems because the link keeps getting removed daily, and thus I re-add it I have received a spamming message. not sure what that is about. But in the hopes of resolving this. This is 3d rendering software directly compatible with Poser and Daz Studio. A truely vast majority of Bryce users seek such a resource as they are extrememly rare.

This free figure is directly for this figure software and non-commercial. It is also a highly advanced level of content far beyond what ships with the software and of use to it's users.

I really have no idea how to respond here or where to look for replies so I will provide email.

I was refered to this discussion page by a wiki representative by email.

There are other links listed in the section below the page that are allowed to remain. Yet mine is being removed on a daily basis. If this is an issue then I seek arbitration. Please stop posting this link. Doing so contravenes our external link guidelines which, among other things, request that owners of a website do not post their own links directly to article pages. This link is unsuitable because it does not provide encyclopedic information about Bryce. Wikipedia is not a portal or place to list resources. Links that provide encyclopedic information about Bryce may be appropriate. Using Wikipedia to promote your own work is considered spamming. Notability[edit]

I am not disputing that the product exists, but I am questioning its notability. Much of this article appears to be written as an advertisement promoting the software: "Bryce includes an enormous number of controls on in the Deep Texture Editor and the Materials Lab to change or modify these properties," "One of the best ways to develop a superb 3D scene is to start with a bitmap editing program such as Adobe Photoshop or the equivalent," "With Bryce the creation of the “open Earth” effect is quite easy. Much more complex shapes, representing realistic or surrealistic elements are possible with more time and skill," "Bryce creates a truly three-dimension world and the camera must be able to capture what is best," "Community, Tutorials, Downloads and more." This kind of language is unacceptable for a Wikipedia article. The tone here should be a brief overview of the product, and an indication of how it is culturally significant. There's a mention in the article that this software was used to create the first full-length motion picture on a desktop, but there's no source of the information, and the film made, Planetary Traveler, doesn't appear to be notable either. Fair use rationale for Image:Bryce5 5 Interface.jpg[edit]

Image:Bryce5 5 Interface.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in Wikipedia articles constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Recent Cleanup[edit]

What the hell happened to this page? It used to be a comprehensive history of the program but now even recent information or news (like the rather notable release of Bryce 6 or some of it's history) has been removed. I'll be immediately re-adding the removed history portions (aside from the citationless Planetary Traveler) and why were the example pictures and basic description removed? Planetary Traveler[edit]

The movie was made with Bryce 2 and beta versions of Bryce 3. The CD-ROM included with Susan A. Kitchen's book "Real World Bryce 2.0" included a trailer for the movie. She used one of the Macintosh computers that was used for some of the Planetary Traveller rendering to create the Mac screenshots and Mac CD-ROM content for the book. Hi all,

So does anybody have any plans to improve this article in the near future? I might do some myself, but it is gonna be a lot of work. I wish some people would not delete the majority of the article and then walk away like they did the right thing.

Bryce 2[edit]

MetaCreations wrote their own programming language for the Windows version of Bryce 2.0. They got more bugs into the Macintosh version of it, and some features are in the Windows version that aren't in the Mac version, which itself has a couple of features not in the Windows version. One of the Mac bugs is in one part one of the 3D movement controls works backwards from how it should. That's all detailed (with workarounds) in Susan A. Kitchen's book "Real World Bryce 2.0". What has happened to this page[edit]

I was hoping to get some useful information on Bryce but instead got a very meager article. If one goes back to older pages there is much more useful information present (See "This is an old revision of this page, as edited by 70.105.253.171 (talk) at 17:29, 22 March 2007").
