Ioannes Tzetzes, Chiliades[edit]

Hi, I added a poem of Tzetzes in the article + reference ... and it was removed.

To the editor who introduced the Tzetzes quote, perhaps you might like to chose a user name?. To Jingiby, if this is a genuine quote, why was was the Tzetzes quote removed? IMO it's too long and all we really need in the article is that "The Byzantine intellectual John Tzetzes refers in Chiliades to the inhabitants of the Theme of Bulgaria as Bulgarians (Βούλγαροι) and their territory the last stronghold of the first Bulgarian Empire" - followed by the reference and not the full poem. Thanks Politis ! I will try to pick a username. I appreciate the controlling efforts of the mods, that's what keeps wiki "healthy" and "troll-clean", but when there's a true reference related to the subject I can't see why it shouldn't be posted.

For example I would like to contribute two further important informations from Paul Stephenson's "Byzantium's Balkan Frontier":

1, page 78:

"Therefore, after Basil's victory in 1018, the usual Byzantine application of the term 'Bulgaria' was to the lands around Ohrid, Prespa and Skopje, recreated as an administrative and military district, and not to those around Preslav and Pliska, nor yet Dristra and Presthlavitza. The latter were called 'the lands beside the Danube' (either Paristrion, or from the mid-eleventh century as an administrative district called Paradounavon). However, there are occasional references to 'the whole of Bulgaria' (pases Boulgarias) in ecclesiastical and administrative contexts ..." ^[1]

This is exactly what Tzetzes also says in the Poem in poetic language.

2, page 148:

Here Stephenson, quotes Anna Komnena, when she defines the northwestern border of the Byzantine Theme of Bulgaria. She says that "our lands" are separated from Serbia/Dalmatia by the mountain Zygos/Kopaonik.^[2]

I think that this information should also be included in the article about "The Byzantine Theme of Bulgaria".
