Last time I was there, there was an onformative sign, on which it was stated that the fire is beleived to have been started by an earthquake. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 60.230.133.182 (talk) 01:04, 13 February 2018 (UTC)[reply]

"Smouldering coal seam".[edit]

This may or may not be the technically correct term, I dunno. But the entrance is certainly orange-hot, with combustion gases and smoke coming out. So I think the term is a bit misleading, in the sense that it would seem to me to be a lot more "intense" that what you would associate with common usage of "smouldering". It might need a line or two to describe the ... intensity ??? ... of the fire. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2001:8003:E448:D401:4858:548F:3D90:614A (talk) 08:48, 4 September 2019 (UTC)[reply]
