As I remarked on the image labelled "Jewish Synagogue": If the building in this picture is a Jewish synagogue then I think an explanation is in order for the Catholic Christian imagery and symbolism saturating the facade. Note: crosses over the main entryway, gable, and towers. Also the painting on the pediment of a crowned Virgin Mary holding Jesus, surrounded by two monastic Christian saints and then two angels. If this is a synagogue, it was certainly not buit as one, since all the Christian iconography and imagery has not been changed in accordance with Jewish principles, as Jews believe neither in saints, the Virgin Mary, or Jesus. Everything about this building from its baroque styling, imagery, and crosses suggests that this is a Catholic Church and not a Jewish Synagogue. 64.148.49.50 (talk) 14:22, 1 July 2009 (UTC)John Fischer

Yes. I think you are right. It is the 'Portuguese Church'. Somehow the photographer who uploaded it into wikipedia, confused it with a synagogue which is located on the same road.--GDibyendu (talk) 17:30, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
