Butler Conference affiliation - Midwestern City (Collegiate) Conference[edit]

I am not used to making changes or participating in Wikipedia stuff so I am trying to be as unobtrusive as possible (commenting on the "Talk" page instead of editing the main page), I hope I am doing this right.

The sub-section titled- "Men's basketball" starts off:

"Historically, the Butler basketball program competed in the Missouri Valley Conference from 1932 to 1934, the Mid-American Conference from 1946 to 1950, the Indiana Collegiate Conference from 1950 to 1978, and currently competes in the Horizon League where it has competed since the league’s creation in 1979" (bolding mine)

But the Horizon League wasn't created until some time later (2001, according to the wiki page on "Horizon League" but 1993 accord to the "Conference Affiliation" grid some ways below the "Men's basketball" section of the "Butler Bulldogs" page).

Some wiki contributor may have considered the HL just to be a renaming of the Midwestern Collegiate League (which started out named the Midwestern Cities Conference); but to some of us following the MCC around that time, the coming and going of schools--especially the wholesale movement of 6 schools from the Mid-Continent Conference to the MCC in 1994-- made that feel like a different conference from the Midwestern Cities Conference.

Besides-- the "Conference Affiliation" grid later in the same wiki page includes Butler basketball teams' membership in both the Midwestern Cities Conference and the Midwestern Collegiate Conference before they joined the Horizon League.

I guess my long winded point is that it is inaccurate to state that Butler's basketball team:

"currently competes in the Horizon League where it has competed since the league’s creation in 1979"

I went ahead and made changes to reflect the name changes but the league really is the same organization as the old "Midwestern Cities Conference." Although the 6 schools coming in 1994 made it feel different, the name still didn't even change until 2001. It's still an important distinction, though. Good catch!

In the first paragraph where the members of the Horizon league are listed, the hyperlink for "Valparaiso" links to the city of Valparaiso in the country of Chile rather than Valparaiso University in Indiana. Slowshow1 (talk) 15:38, 4 April 2011 (UTC)[reply]
