Incorrect information.

Byron MacDonald hasn't issued anything on his comments. And the quote is not an apology to the public.

In the "Controversy" section of this page, it says "The broadcaster later issued an apology for the comments, stating that... ".

The reference (http://news.nationalpost.com/sports/rio-2016/cbc-apologizes-after-olympic-commentator-says-chinese-swimmer-went-out-like-stink-died-like-a-pig) makes it clear that it is CBC spokesman Chuck Thompson who stated in an email to Postmedia that "To be clear, Byron’s comments were related to the swimmer’s performance, ...", not Byron MacDonald. Nor is the quote part of an apology to the public.

Partly done: Agreed that the article says nothing about McDonald apologizing. However, the article does say that another broadcaster apologized on-air and that the network apologized on Twitter. I've changed the article to state that the network apologized. ‑‑ElHef (Meep?) 17:07, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]
Apologies, that was poor wording on my part. Perhaps it's a regional English thing, but to me the broadcaster and the network are the same thing. If I'd meant that MacDonald had issued the apology, I would have said "MacDonald later issued" or "The commentator later issued". Marianna251TALK 17:36, 11 August 2016 (UTC)[reply]

To follow up on ElHef's response:

"The network later issued an apology for the comments, stating that To be clear, Byron’s comments were related to the swimmer’s performance," ...." indicates that the quoted "To be clear, Byron's comments..." is from the network's apology.

However, the quotes are from CBC spokesman Chuck Thompson's email to Postmedia.

Thanks Marianna251 for the clarification.

Also, an update:

Byron MacDonald apologised himself on Thursday afternoon Canadian time, http://olympics.cbc.ca/video/vod/cbc-sports-swim-analyst-byron-macdonald-apologizes-for-comments-directed-chinese-swimmer.html

The video couldn't be played at the moment of update. Please confirm the content.
