Merge?[edit]

The following discussion is closed and will soon be archived: Outcome: merge/redirected

We seem to have two articles covering the same subject. One at Cíarraige (note fada/accent on "i") and one at Ciarraige (no fada). While I am no expert, from what I can tell, the subject of both articles is the same. Certainly the text seems to be broadly the same. Varying only slightly because of the slight divergences in edits over the years. Ideally the creator of both articles, Fergananim, or other more knowledgeable contributors would chip in. To confirm whether I am mistaken. And, if not, what might be done to address this apparent redundancy and duplication. Cheers. Guliolopez (talk) 00:20, 28 April 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Bump - Ping @Fergananim:, @Herlihyc: and @Nmclough:. Would you guys have a view on whether Cíarraige (fada) or Ciarraige (no fada) is the best/natural target for a merge of these two articles? Which, as far as I can tell, cover the same subject? If there are no other thoughts, then I am just going to pick one, and do my best to merge the content. I probably won't do as good a job as might be possible with guidance from someone more knowledgeable. But, in honesty, even a hamfisted attempt from me would probably be better than the current situation (where we've got a single subject covered across two otherwise equivalent articles....) Well Spotted!! I would merge Ciarraige into Cíarraige because 'Cíarraige' has more content, and I'm biased towards using the Irish language when referring to Gaelic Irish nouns. Others might counter that this is English language Wikipedia so the Fada should not have precedence. Either way, they should be merged and I have no strong opinion either way.
