"C. V. Boys" vs. "Charles Vernon Boys"[edit]

Is there any particular reason, why is this article named just "C. V. Boys" and not by subject full name "Charles Vernon Boys"? When I first saw the title, I thought it is about some pop band.

Articles about other people usually contains their full name, or combination of first and last name: Johannes Diderik van der Waals, Dominique François Jean Arago, Hannes Olof Gösta Alfvén and others. Sigismund~cswiki (talk) 09:16, 29 July 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Good question. Exactly the same thing pop'd up in my mind. Because I am exploring all three volumes of Marcel Minnaert's Dutch classic on physics in nature (De Natuurkunde van 't Vrije Veld), I came across the name 'Boys' and immediately wanted to know more about the person 'Boys'. Indeed, it should be Charles Vernon Boys, instead of "C. V. Boys" (I thought it was some sort of sports-club or something...). DannyCaes (talk) 13:03, 28 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@Sigismund~cswiki The shortened C. V. Boys are used on the original prints of his book and a portrait. Unless there's a policy, I think we should keep the page name how it is, just like the page J. R. R. Tolkien Panamitsu (talk) 08:56, 28 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Gravity experiment[edit]

The description of Boys's gravity experiment is either unclear or wrong. In Boys's set-up there are two small test masses (call them A and B) and two larger masses (C and D) which can be rotated so that they are on different sides of the test masses (as in Cavendish's experiment). A and C are at the same height as each other. So are B and D. But the pair A/C and the pair B/D are at different levels, to reduce the possible gravitational influence of C on B or D on A.
