Location?[edit]

At present, following the grid reference to google maps indicates the base is in the ocean. Anybody got more accurate data? --Commking 03:46, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Take a look at Alert, Nunavut and Alert Airport. The coordinates for the airport are right out of the CFS and they also appear to be in the ocean. However, if you zoom out out on google maps the white (ice/snow?) looks as if it continues into the blue. If you change the satellite image to a map then Alert is shown on land. If you use google earth then Alert appearing in the ocean is still the same but it's now outlined by a yellow line. Also look at this and National Defence site give the coordinates as in the article. I think it's more of a google map issue. CambridgeBayWeather (Talk) 08:53, 6 March 2007 (UTC)[reply]

CFS Alert Crest[edit]

Newbie here. As I understand the copyright of images, those from the Government are copyright free? I have the crest but wonder if it can be put up here. And if it can be used, how do I get it on the page (style-wise right margin with the text on the left). I've seen boxes, frames, etc but have know idea how to do it. Maybe I could put it up here in the discussion section and someone can move it? CubBC (talk) 09:28, 5 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

2010 Olympics Touch Relay[edit]

The Vancouver 2010 Olympics Touch Relay should pass by Alert on November 8, 2009. http://www.vancouver2010.com/en/torch-relays/the-route/interactive-map/-/58040/17ckajb/index.html --69.51.192.230 (talk) 21:04, 21 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

C54 crash[edit]

I removed the following

"* There was an air crash at CFS Alert 05/10/1950. A USAF Douglas aircraft company C-54/DC-4 variant cargo aircraft crashed at CFS Alert in adverse icing and fog conditions. The aircraft impacted the end of the runway and broke up. All of the US aircrew survived the incident and walked away. http://www.ruudleeuw.com/search116.htm"

When you search through the page linked above it gives two links. The first is to here which lists the 42-72616 serial three times. The next line at www.ruudleeuw.com says the aircraft is not shown at http://www.aviationarchaeology.com/src/1950s/1950Apr.htm. However the aircraft is listed there but that it is on Prince Patrick Island. In fact there seems to have been two accidents on Prince Patrick Island on that day both with C54.
