Talk:Cage nut

The article's focus is computer server rack mounting hardware. The Amazon.com section for "cage nuts" includes some sizes not mentioned in the article with some of them being larger than the square holes commonly seen in server racks.

  • 6-32
  • 8-32 - This has the same diameter as 12-24 but a finer pitch.
  • 5/16-18
  • 3/8-16
  • 1/4-20
  • 1/2-13
  • M8 1.25

Should the article scope be expanded outside of cage nuts intended for use in computer or server rack cabinets?

Prior to today's edits the article had mentioned M6 and M8. I have only seen M5 and M6 being used in server racks and so updated the article to use those two sizes. The Amazon listings were consistent in that they include wording such as "rack" or "server rack" in the listings for 10-32, 12-24, M5 and M6 cage nuts and never for the other sizes. With that in mind, I removed mention of "Less common are the 5/16 (USA) and M8 (metric) cage nuts for very heavy equipment such as large servers and uninterruptible power supplies (UPSs)." --Marc Kupper|talk 17:27, 10 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Spatial visualizationally impaired[edit]

[I kinda wonder if this section heading marks the first time in the history of the English language that an adverbial form of "visualization" has ever been used.]

Even though the description of function is well written, I still can't picture it. If anyone can provides a (Wikipedia-rules-acceptable) diagram of a cage nut in place with its associated bolt and frame rail (or even just a photo), it would really help folks like me (who have never held nor seen nor used a cage nut) understand exactly what their purpose is. Which end goes where? Is the clip on the inside or the outside? I just can't picture it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by Starling2001 (talkcontribs) 10:05, 14 January 2014 (UTC)[reply]
